Fire Cider – Try

Thought I’d share this one with you..

I didn’t get my hands on elderberries this season, so I decided to give  fire cider a try. It has all lovely spicy (and firy) ingredients in there, so it has to be good to support the body’s system in the fight against the ‘winter bugs’

What I altered was basically, shredding all ingredients to increase surface area; using less lemon juice and zest and no apple vinegar at all. Instead I added salt, and left the peel of ginger, turmeric and horseradish on to provide a source of micro organisms so that the batch could ferment the natural way: it will sour, hence no additional lemon juice needed, but I did want to have a bit of a lemony flavor in there, hence not the total omission. Adding thymian and rosemary will be in the next batch. They are indeed optional, but I do think they would give a lovely flavor to the brew as well.

Let’s see how this one turns out!! 🙂
