Indigenous Inspiration

For the better part of the year I have been actively working with the two books by Jamie Sams, Earth Medicine and The 13 Original Clan Mothers. What these, more than anything previously have provided for me is peace and a feeling of coming home, solidity and focus, and even direction.. A direction that falls into alignment with that which my heart desires. A new dimension adding peaceful and trusting resonance that vibrates through my body.

What struck me on this particular day were four subsequent texts in light of the Weighs the Truth clan mother. Weighs the Truth is the clan mother that aims at seeing things for what they are, from all possible angles. It includes looking beyond our ego state that is in need to defend or justify our actions always, without questioning its own self, the construct it is, its own reality and existence. (Or so I like to interpret it :))

The texts are Day of Reckoning, Human Hunger, the Fallacy of Domination and the Raccoon’s lessons. And to me they are an interesting ‘coinciding’ with what I feel applies to our current turbulent and chaotic times:

Day of Reckoning talks about how we often live in fear of being reckoned with, in fear of being called up on our behavior or held accountable for our actions. It questions if we can heal any such fear inside of us because if we live in peace with ourselves, others and our environment, and whatever comes on our Path, than no fear is needed. We stand in trust in personal accountability and integrity, as we have already considered the consequences of our actions. (quote) We develop our willingness to be reckoned with through the clarity of our personal intent coupled with the content of our deeds.” (end quote)

Human Hunger talks about the basic needs for all of humanity. It’s about the ‘forgotten’, the ‘invisibles’ in our society: the Homeless, the Hungry and the Abandoned, about the wars we wage, about the power we seek. In the end All come to realize it is about Love, about sharing in the abundance that is present all around us, and caring about others. And this is exactly what Mother Earth teaches us, if we care to listen.

The Fallacy of Domination addresses our human experience where people are being set up to oppose each other. It is about greed and power and trying to dominate the other ‘camp’, trying to break them. It underscores that the human spirit always rises again, regardless of how dominated it may (have) be(en). And each time it rises with more determination and deeper understanding of Life’s Path and Lessons. (quote) “We all have places inside of ourselves where we believe that we cannot succeed, heal, make a better life, overcome a challenge. It is a lie. Have we given away our authority and desire to survive? Do you need to release a lie you believed (…) in order to grow?(end quote)

This section in particular reminded me of a quote in a book about free learning, that the human mind, no matter how suppressed it is, it will always bubble under surface, under the lid that we put on it and in the end find a way to freedom. To me, this is a very important, powerful and hopeful message.

The Raccoon’s lessons reminds us that we should give the best of ourselves and our abilities to others but without robbing ourselves of our health or sense of well-being. This applies to me very much, and I am working on restoring that balance.

Have a look at Jamie Sams’ books, they are very inspiring. <3
